ABOUT DIAPHORM
Everyone in the armor industry is constantly searching for lighter weight, more flexible and stronger products that offer a higher degree of protection to people who are placed in harm’s way. Diaphorm has earned a solid reputation as a world leader in forming and molding Continuously Reinforced Thermoplastic Composite Materials that provide the protection benefits that are so important to the ballistic market.

Thermoplastic (TP) resins are extremely tough and offer an inherently low density. Diaphorm specializes in molding processes for continuously woven or unidirectional high tenacity S-Glass, Carbon and Aramid fibers impregnated with thermoplastic resins as well as self reinforcing plastics such as Ultra High Molecular Weight Polyethylenes, to create products for the armor industry that offer elevated protection.

Diaphorm combines in-depth materials knowledge, advanced engineering capability and unique processing techniques to offer light weight, cost effective solutions directly to our friends in the armor market.

Armor History

Over the years, Diaphorm has worked extensively with the US Army Research Labs (ARL) as well as other large US defense contractors to develop process and laminate solutions for armor applications. This close cooperation has resulted in both new technique development as well as successful product commercialization.

Our newest innovation is the Personal Chest Plate which is shown above. These plates, with an NIJ IV rating, are capable of stopping an armor piercing bullet. The Personal Chest Plate has also been tested to sustain multiple hits.

The Personal Chest Plate recently received rave reviews at the International Association of Police Show in New Orleans. It was displayed at the show by the firm’s distribution channel, Max Pro-Police and Armor. Attendees were amazed to discover that the rugged chest plate could actually be dropped by its user without destroying its ballistic integrity!
   Initial Expertise:
Sunrise Engineering SketchSunrise PrototypeSunrise Crash TestSunrise Crash TestThe team of industry experts that originally launched Diaphorm began working together as an engineering department of Solectra Corporation, an all electric vehicle company. While still at Solectra, we created the high performance electric sedan known as “ Sunrise ”, which was made entirely of the composites we developed. But forming the composites was not enough, we also needed to develop the patented processing techniques that allowed cost effective manufacture of this all composite commercial grade vehicle in high volumes.

The “Sunrise”

• Had 10 times the crash protection at 50% the weight

• Surpassed U. S. government crash standards for frontal impact tests

• Met requirements for cost effective manufacture

Today, Diaphorm continues to evolve its innovative process techniques with special emphasis on the use of new to the market Continuously Reinforced Thermoplastic Composite Materials.
